Burn Settings

Valid: Output to Media
This block is only visible if you select a DVD recording device as target device. If you select ISO or HDD targets, this block will disappear.

1. Disc Name
This is the name of the DVD that will show up inside the explorer window. We do not recommend using a name that is longer than 32 characters.
DVD-Ranger will fill this field automatically most of the time. But some DVDs do not contain a valid disk name (Like DVD Volume).
2. Burn Speed
Burn speed is the speed which the recording device uses to write the data to the DVD or BD blank. Note: that your drive may be able to burn 24x Speed, but it is strongly recommended to burn with “Average Speed” to avoid problems with playback. The pre-defined “Average Speed” in DVD-Ranger is 8x Speed.
3. Enable Auto Erase
This is an “option” you have to use with care. Use this option only if you copy from original DVDs. If you copy from a DVD +/- RW, with source and target drives being the same, the DVD will be erased immediately. This option is disabled by default.
4. Verify after Burn
After the burn process is completed, DVD-Ranger will verify the written DVD with the original data on your hard drive. During this step you will be informed about write errors. As this option is time consuming, it is disabled by default.
5. Eject After Burn
After burning and the optional verify step is completed, DVD-Ranger will open the tray of your recording device.
6. Burn-Proof / Safe Burn
This is a built in option of your recording drive. This feature will handle the data flow to the recording engine to prevent buffer underruns and subsequent errors arising from that issue. If this option is not enabled there is a higher risk of getting coasters as a result.
7. Burn Cache
This is the internal memory DVD-Ranger will use to buffer the data. We do not recommend that you change these settings except if requested by our support staff.
Copy Settings

Valid: Output to ISO/HDD

8. Direct Menu Jump
Only available in DVD Full Copy. If activated, DVD-Ranger will change the DVD control data to jump directly to the main menu. Use this option with caution as it does not work with every DVD.
9. Add Start Menu
Only available in DVD Movie Only Copy. If activated, DVD-Ranger will add a simple, “One Button” menu to the movie only copy. This will prevent the DVD-player to start playing the main movie immediately after inserting the DVD.
10. Double Layer Copy
DVD-Ranger has been optimized for copying an original (DVD-10) to a single layer (DVD-5) blank target by recompressing the movie (make it smaller). In order to increase quality you can use a double layer (DVD-9) blank target. Just activate this option to use a double layer (DVD-9) target. If you are not sure, leave this option deactivated.
11. Remove Region Code
Many DVDs are only playable in defined regions. So a user in Europe cannot watch a DVD from the USA. Activate this option in order to remove this region protection. DVD-Ranger will try to guess the original region automatically before the copy process starts but if it fails it will open a dialog where you have to manually select the original region of the DVD.
12. Auto Remove DTS
DTS is a multichannel high quality audio codec. Some DVDs contain a DTS stream, to allow the full sound experience. But most users do not have the necessary hardware and software to use DTS audio. Every DVD that contains a DTS stream must also contain the same language as AC3 to, because it is known that not every player supports DTS. So, if you see DTS inside the DVD content list, you can activate this option and DVD-Ranger will automatically remove this stream from the copy, leaving the AC3 version if it was selected in the content list. Note that DVD-Ranger will not remove the DTS stream from the content list.
13. Custom Target Size
Some DVDs may overflow so the copy will become too big to burn on a standard DVD-5 medium. If this happens, you can change the final size of the copy with this option. After you activate this option, DVD-Ranger will add a new “Size” option to the list. There you can change the target size. For example fill in 4400 to make the resulting copy 100 MB smaller.
14. Disc Border Size
This is a special option of DVD-Ranger. Please change this option only on request of our support team.
Save Settings

Valid for: ISO /HDD
Only available after you select an ISO or HDD target. This option will disappear if you select a target recording device instead.

15. Save As
This is the path where you want to save your copy to. DVD-Ranger will recommend a path, mostly the path used before in combination with the actual DVD name. Click inside this field and you will see a button to open a file/directory selection dialog.
If the settings panel is closed or this field is blank, DVD-Ranger will automatically ask for a target path/file before it starts copying.
