This issue was reported by a few users who are using Norton security products. Switch the Norton software to work in "Silent" mode and DVD-Ranger will be able to read the DVD.

This issue was reported with Kaspersky products. Please use another decrypter instead of libdvdcss-2-dll.

In the past this happened with Kaspersky 2010 Internet Suite. Kaspersky claims to have fixed this false reading and it is typically available for download when you update your Kaspersky system. If this problem occurs again, please contact us immediately.

DVD-Ranger Error Reporting ToolDVD-Ranger comes with an innovative error reporting technology similar to the one Microsoft uses in their operating system. The DVD-Ranger Error Reporting Tool, called DVDRangerSupport.exe is a little utility which tries to catch fatal errors that may occur and to create a readable and debuggable dump file and log file so we can reproduce and repair the error in our system..

Limitations with a PS3 Single File:
- One Audio Track: The PS3 does not allow to switching of audio tracks
- No DTS. PS3s don not allow playback from XMB to DTS. Only Ac3 selection is allowed
- No Subtitles selection: The PS3 does not show subtitles in video files started from XMB.

You'll need:
- An external USB Hard Drive formatted with FAT32 as the PS3 only supports FAT32. This is important while working with a 4GB file.
- A folder labeled "Video". If this does not exist, create a "Video" folder in the root of the USB Hard Drive, this is the common video folder on PS3 external drives.

Play The Copy:
- Rename the DVD-Ranger PS3 output
- Unplug the USB Hard drive from your computer and plug it into the PS3
- Start your video.

Remarks:
Some older versions of PowerDVD do not play these files well. You can play them with newer versions of PowerDVD, VLC Player or other player like Nero ShowTime.

A MovieOnly copy is a copy without ads, trailers, etc. So if you insert the DVD it will start the main movie without all the fluff and titles and junk no one really wants to see.
DVD-Ranger 2.7.7 and above allows you to add a DVD Menu to the MovieOnly copy. This is a very small menu with a start button. Use the following steps to add a menu to a movie only copy:

1.) Load your source
2.) Set the project type, Automatic Movie or Own Movie
3.) Select your target
4.) Now click on "Settings>>" right hand of the Target
5.) Check the option "Add Start Menu"
7.) Click on "Start Now!"

DVD-Ranger will add a predefined menu to the DVD copy:
DVD-Ranger - Movie Only Menu

This sometimes happens on newer DVDs. You can increase the deposit buffer by following these steps:

1.) Load your source DVD
2.) Set the project type, Automatic Full or Own Full
3.) Select your target
4.) Now click on "Settings>>" right hand of the Target
5.) Check the option "Custom Target Size"
6.) A new option will occur. Enter a new size, like 4400 into this field.
7.) Click on "Start Now!"

You can also create a HotFix Database entry for this problem.

To run DVD-Ranger on your new system, DVD-Ranger must have its own install process. You cannot move DVD-Ranger by copy the files to a new computer or move it with a dic image (DriveBackup). So if you have a new computer always do a fresh install of DVD-Ranger.

It is important to have the possibility to differentiate the final files that DVD-Ranger created according to your settings. Because h264 and Mp4 are both Mpeg4 encoded, they have the same mp4 suffix (*.mp4).

The Sony PSP differentiates between Mp4 and h264 files (You can select the target video format in DVD-Ranger mobile settings).

It is really important to follow the directions to transfer your copy to the PSP. DVD-Ranger will rename the files automatically so please stay in line with the following steps.

Take a look to the "Transfer to PSP" guide.

The movie you are trying to copy is encrypted. DVD-Ranger can copy personally authored DVDs or movies which are not encrypted. If you wish to copy a movie which is encrypted, you will have to install a third party decrypter like 'machinist2.dll', 'DVD43' or 'AnyDVD' to unlock the DVD.

"machinist2.dll" and "DVD43" are free programs that operate in the background of copying software and decrypt the DVD while you copy it. "machinist2.dll" and "DVD43" are available for free on the internet and they can be located using any search engines.

Many countries have specific laws that prohibit the sale and distribution of software that decrypts DVDs. We like to keep our work within the legal limitations so our products don't come with decryption features. Decrypting programs are developed by independent third parties and are not distributed by or affiliated with Pixbyte Development SL.

Yes, absolutely. However, our recommendation is to remove the extra audio languages and drop the extras whenever you need to - this will allow more space for the feature movie and provide you with enhanced video quality.

When we refer to extras, we are talking about anything other than the feature movie, which can be played on a standalone DVD player. Some DVDs come with software as well. Software and data files can be copied directly from the DVD to your hard disc using Windows. DVD-Ranger was not created for copying such files; it was intended to copy movie files (audio and video).

The "Data Bypass mode" will be enabled if the Source disc needs no recompression in order to fit on a DVD R(W). During this process, DVD-Ranger will copy just the bytes without recompressing or modifying the source data.

This mode was developed for increasing the processing speed in a fast and clear manner, without unneeded threads.

One of the most common problems that leads to poor quality of the copied DVD is the existence of two complete movies on the source DVD. Sometimes DVDs include a Full Screen version and a Wide Screen version. First step to avoid this problem is to deselect one of the versions from the content list and try again.

Another issue would be the size of the movie. If the movie you are trying to copy is too large, start by deselecting any unnecessary languages and extra content, like trailers. The quality of your DVD copy will reach instantly higher standards of quality.

This can happen if you copy from original DVD. Sometimes the DVD drive is in the "old" PIO mode, but needs to run in "DMA" mode.

Fix on Vista/7:
Opening “Device Manager”
The first thing you need to do is get into the Windows Device Manager.
Click on Start, then right-click on "Computer" and select "Manage". If a prompt appears asking you to confirm the action, click "Continue". After that, the “Computer Management” window will open and then you just need to click on “Device Manager” in the left pane and it will list the devices in the right pane.

Device Manager

Finding the IDE Channels:
Now that you are in the Windows Device Manager you need to click the + beside “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers” to expand it, this will list the IDE controllers. See image below. The Primary and Secondary IDE controllers are the ones that are important here.

Device Manager

IDE Channel Properties:
Double click on “Primary IDE Channel” (or "ATA Channel 0") and the properties window will open. In this window you need to click the “Advanced Settings” tab at the top. You should now have a window that looks similar to the image below.

It will list one or two devices (Target ID 0 is the Primary, Target ID 1 the Secondary device), also specifying the type of device, and current transfer mode. Current Mode should say "Ultra DMA Mode X" (where X is a number). If it says "PIO Only", you need to check the "Enabled DMA" option below. Once done, click OK to close the window.

Now proceed in the same way for “Secondary IDE Channel” (or "ATA Channel 1"). If you made any changes you need to restart your computer for them to take effect.

This is usually caused by a damaged or a dirty DVD. However, there are cases when cyclic redundancy errors are caused by flawed DVDs or a Bad Press from the manufacturing process. Please make sure you clean the DVD thoroughly and try it again. If the problem still persists, try copying the DVD using the feature MOVIE ONLY. It's a feature that generally works in this situation.

Region settings are automatically incorporated into the DVD-Ranger and a window will pop up if they need to be changed.

Make sure that you are using a blank that is supported by your DVD Player. We recommend using RW media to burn copies created by DVD-Ranger. However, some players will not support this kind of discs. In this case you have to burn your DVD on a DVD+R or DVD-R. Our advice is to avoid using the DVD-RAM.

Besides the situations mentioned above, when a copy plays on the PC and not on the DVD player, it may be due of the newer DVD releases. Make sure you report such DVDs with the bug submission system.

Generally, yes. However, if some discs were reported wrongly by AnyDVD, you have to disable the AI scanner with AnyDVD, for obtaining the best results with DVD-Ranger.

Yes, both DVD NTSC and PAL DVD movies can be copied with DVD Ranger.

Make sure the DVD you are trying to copy is neither dirty nor scratched. Sometimes, small imperfections are not easy to see on the disc, and DVD readers are not able to overcome the errors. Therefore, they send back error codes to the software. A thorough cleaning of the surface of the original DVD might do the trick. If you have both a DVD reader and writer, try using the other DVD device to read the DVD.

Lastly, try another DVD, maybe this one doesn't match the conditions of our DVD reader. Plus, try to play the original DVD on your PC in order to see if it is damaged.

1.) Make sure it is a original DVD
2.) Make sure AnyDVD or Passkey is disabled
3.) Make sure that option "Connect on Startup" is enabled
